BACK TO 2016 ? ~

Let me take you back to a time when things were much simpler lol... We were jamming to Rihanna’s Anti without knowing it would be her last album and One Dance was playing everywhere during summer. It was also a dark time for fashion when it was ok to wear clothes with galaxy on it. We really as a society accepted galaxy leggings... Really unforgivable lol. Aztec was also big in fashion at this time. I guess it makes sense because I was inspired by an old nail art that I found on Pinterest.

This nail art reminds me of those galaxy leggings. Let’s say it’s a homage lol or just ahead of its time since fashion is an eternal restarting.

HAPPY GALENTINE’S DAY TO YOU ! ~

*The movie Valentine’s Day on so the mood is set to talk about my (valentine’s day?) nail art*

So yay I’m not really a Valentine’s Day person but I’m definitely a cheesy movie kind of girl. 

This is really funny to me how dramatic this nail art is like me I guess lol ? As if anyone has ever broke my heart lol. This is the second time that I draw broken hearts on my nails for Valentine’s Day. I first did it 2 years ago, the result was pretty shitty. I didn’t keep the mani really long lol. I prefer this one way better! 

Since 2019, it’s kinda my tradition to do like an Anti Valentine’s Day nail art like yay for obvious reasons lol. My rule is I can do Valentine’s Day nail art whenever I want except on the 14 of February lol. Last year, I did a candy hearts inspired nail art but instead of the traditional “love you” messages, I wrote “LOL” or “NO”, stuff like that and my co-workers didn’t get it at all lol. It pisses me off when people don’t get my nail art lol. Some of them didn’t understand that it was an Anti Valentine’s Day nail art, others didn’t get why I wrote “LOL”. 

So as you probably understood it, I don’t relate to this celebration for its principal definition I guess but I always feel the need to put my twist on it lol. Valentine’s Day should not make us feel bad for being single, for not knowing what being in a relationship is like, for not wanting to mingle or for not talking to anyone. All of it is ok unlike what the society or social medias want us to believe. We’re complete on our own and it’s way more important to work on ourselves because *me, myself and I is all I got in the end* as Queen B would say.

Instead of celebrating the love we would give to a significant other, maybe we should celebrate self-love and body positivity because the relationship that we have with ourselves is so important. In this race of finding the “good one”, we sometimes forget to be good with ourselves first.

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR 2021 ! CHUC MUNG NAM MOI ! ~

For those who celebrate it, I wish you a happy lunar new year! I hope this year is filled with success, happiness and obviously money lol. 

I wasn’t really inspired for this year nail art. At first, I didn’t want to do the lucky cat because I did it two years ago. I thought of doing an ox since is the year of the ox but I wasn’t confident enough to do it lol.   I’m still trying to find my way around animals. I’m not that comfortable drawing them yet lol. The list of animals I can draw is still very limited lol. So here’s the comeback of the lucky cat! I wasn’t optimistic about this mani because I didn’t know how it would look like but honestly I’m pretty pleased with the result. 

So I did a glitter placement on my pointer and pinky fingernails using red and gold glitter. Btw, I think that I should buy another gold glitter polish. The one I used is becoming tired lol. I draw the lucky cat on my middle fingernail and a red lantern on my ring fingernail. 

In my last year post, I talked about the struggle of being asian in a western country and the difficulty for us asian to make people understand that the racism that we face is indeed racism and not just humour or idk what other bullshit people would call it. Keep in mind that at this time last year, COVID wasn’t a global pandemic yet. It was majorly located in China. So I can definitely say racism against asian people became stronger once COVID became global. At the beginning of the pandemic in march 2020, I felt uncomfortable being in public transport. People would change seats once they saw that I was asian or they would stare at me like I was a monster or something. That’s sad to say but I’m pretty used to racism but not in this shape or form. Before COVID, I’ve never been uncomfortable in a public place because I was asian so yay I guess there’s always a first for everything. It wasn’t even that bad comparing at what other asians lived and are still living even right now. Violence and hate crimes against asian people have strongly increased since COVID. Right now, no one can say that racism against asian people doesn’t exist, no one can turn a blind eye and ignore it. I feel like mainstream medias don’t talk about it enough but it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. You have to educate yourself and listen to what asian people have to say. Before this pandemic, we had a long way to go and now it’s even worth lol. It’s like we moved backward.

All of this should never makes us forget how great it is to belong to such rich cultures. When I was in middle and high school, I would not brag about being Vietnamese not that I was ashamed or what but I didn’t want to highlight the fact that I was different. Now I’m soooooo glad to be different honestly. So yay celebrate your roots, today even harder than the other days. And finally, what is happening to us should never make us forget what the other minorities are living too. We’re not the only ones struggling and diminishing other battles won’t help ours.

INSPIRATION ? GONE. INEXISTANT. ~

I really had no inspiration for this nail art. For some reasons, I ended up doing the Guitar Hero buttons on my nails lol. That’s funny because I literally suck at this game.

For this nail art, I begun by applying a coat of white polish. Then I did the “jelly sandwich” technique which consists in topping glitter with a jelly polish. Here, I used a white jelly like polish. I bought a bunch thinking it was regular white polish. So I guess I will able to do this technique for a while lol. The “jelly sandwich” technique was pretty popular at the beginning of the 2010′s I guess? -I said the 2010′s like I was talking about the 80′s lol-. Finally, I draw around my pointer, middle and pinky fingernails and I did a candy cane design on my ring fingernail.

HOT PINK ~

I’m back with a full pink mani! Pink is my fav color so it always a pleasure for me to have it all over my nails. It instantly brighten the mood. Pretty ironic because I failed a job interview while having this mani lol. Welcome to the struggle of finding a job during a panorama lol. 

So for this nail art, I did flowers on my pointer fingernail, smiley faces on my middle fingernail, a pink gradient on my ring fingernail and finally I put pink glitter on my pinky fingernail. I know it kinda looks weird, it’s because I had to extract the last drops from the bottle lol. This polish is dry af but I really wanted to use it lol.

Also “Hot Pink” is the name of Doja Cat’s album and like a lot of people I think “Say So” came first in my Spotify Wrap so this mani is also kind of a tribute to this body of work that keeps on giving even in 2021. I think that my top 3 is : “Say So”, “Won’t Bite” and “Streets”. Actually, “Streets” didn’t really stand out to me when I listened to the whole album but the hype around it made me change my mind.
